  Taliban prisoners in Cuba

  does this trouble anyone?.

  it seems semantic tom-foolery to declare a war on terrorism, and then to say that prisoners of the war are not prisoners of war.. it also seems very suspect keeping them of proper usa soil, as where they are they are out of sight, mind, or appeal by civil-rights factions.. do not get me wrong.. i am not saying, "ah, poor ickle terrorists".. but in a war against terror, surely taking each and every opportunity to distance yourself from your enemies is the wisest and best course of action?.

  why do anything that is even remotely dodgy or underhand?.

  Perhaps I missed something. . . but has the U.S. been accused of mistreating the prisoners being transported to Cuba from Afghanistan?
  I do remember that some of them were so violent they had to be sedated before boarding the plane.

  Granted, if these were U.S. prisoners, they would have to be given three squares a day, a bankie, liberal lawyer, access to the law library at Columbia, etc, etc. But alas, these are prisoners of war and as long as they are not being tortured then that's all they need to expect.

  So, before you continue tearing down the judicial system in the U.S. consider the nature of these prisoners.

  If there is even strong circumstantial evidence that any of these prisoners were directly involved in the events of 9/11, either in the planning or the actual logistics of the events, then they should be given a quick military tribunal judgement and if the sentence is death, they should be immediatley executed.

  Sending a strong message to terrorists that we won't tolerate a repeat of 9/11 is MORE important than the human rights of these prisoners.

  QUESTION: What religion are you in now? ...

  this got me to thinking.... now that most of us have left the wts, i notice some have taken other belief systems.

  some have come to a peace with their own ideas.. my question is are you involved with another religion?

  has it brought you more peace or happiness?

  While I don't personally believe in a god or transcendent power, I do attend a Presbyterian church with my family on a regular basis. I find the hour spent, 30 minutes of which is music, to be very relaxing. I simply sit and listen to stuff I don't feel like being diagreeable about. Things like being a better father, husband and person.

  My kids like to attend their Sunday school classes with their friends from middle school and high school. I think the whole experience for them is positive. So, strange as it may seem, I do enjoy my hour of religion every week.

  I got an Invite to a DUB Wedding!!!!!!!

  well,,,,, not really - but the letter came addressed to my husband - my name is listed on the inside card.

  its for my x-husbands nephew.. i think i might go to the reception (and only the reception - i am not steping foot in a hall if i can help it!!!!

  )- just to see the looks on the faces of those there - but more so for my nephew's sake.

  A few years ago I attended a dub wedding for my neice. My non-JW wife and kids (who had never been inside a Kingdom Hall before) also attended with me. The wedding service seemed to be more of a didactic designed for the non-JW's in the audience than for the bride and groom. After the vows there was a lengthy prayer ad nauseum. In the car, on the way to the reception (no booze incidentally), my then seven year old son blurts out, "Who is this Jovagod guy anyway?"

  I love a good JW wedding for a chuckle.

  Quality of this Forum

  just a quick thought - i am a firm believer in freedom of speech etc, but having been on this forum for some time i honestly can't say that i can introduce a doubting jw interested in true christianity to this board.

  some of the deep discussions on jw doctrine are excellent, but everything else seems to be nonsense in my opinion.

  why can't this site be more like the old www.witnesses.net which seemed to have more spiritual meat rather than backbiting, gossip, and rumour and even obscenity.. sorry for my frank opinion

  One of the reasons things are discussed on this board that may seem out of the norm for a discussion board about Jehovah's Witnesses is because of the mental and physical repression that many of us experienced while active members of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  In one of my earliest posts on this board, I asked about those who had become more actively involved in taboo (in the mindset of JW's) sexual activities now that they have broken free of the chains of Witness think. Needless to say, the thread deteriorated into something I didn't intend.

  My point is, many who post here have been free of the Witness thought process for varying lengths of time. Things that were once considered unacceptable to talk about are now considered acceptable topics of conversation. Those who don't desire to participate need not do so. The menu of available topics to participate in here is boundless. I for one enjoy that kind of freedom. Others do not and will move on to other boards.

  If this board ever becomes simply a doctrinal debate about JW's or other religions, then I will not hang out here. I think Simon has done an excellent job of setting up this board to accomodate a vast variety of topics and tastes.

  i thought this was a little odd, so i did some calculations to see if my observations were correct.. last year, there were 107,218 jws in canada.

  they reported 18,544,473 hours of field service.

  this activity resulted in 2,030 new baptisms.

  just a reminder to all those partisan politics folks that both republicans and democrats are dirty, lying thieves through and through.

  conservatives enjoyed piling on clinton and getting all frothy about how he dishonered the dignity of the white house.

  then george w. promised to 'restore dignity to the white house' and instead of viewing this as a typical political lie to get elected, conservatives bought it hook, line, and sinker.

  Another set of handy JW defenses might go like this:

  I joined the Army so I could use their 6 week fitness program.

  I attended a Christmas party so I could leave Watchtower and Awake copies on coffee tables when nobody was looking.

  I committed adultery to get some pointers on how to better satisfy my wife.

  I joined the YMCA so I could use their basketball court.

  We joined the UN so we could use their library.

  All of the above make perfect sense to me.
